Race Legacy

A Heritage of Velocity

The idea for Marzocchi was born in 1949 with Stefano and Guglielmo Marzocchi’s creation of the first hydraulic motorcycle suspension while working on the iconic Ducati 60 motorcycle, built at the famous Borgo Panigale factory. Soon thereafter, the Marzocchi brothers struck out on their own and have since led the way in motorcycle suspension with impeccable Italian engineering, precision design, and an unthrottled thirst for victory on the track. Passed down through generations of the Marzocchi family, the brand remains as relevant and innovative as ever.

Two Brothers. One Legacy.

In an era of stiff, lightweight bicycle-stylized motorcycles, former Ducati employees Stefano and Guglielmo Marzocchi created a futuristic motorcycle design featuring the first hydraulic motorcycle suspension. It puts the motorcycle company (and the Marzocchi brothers) on the map, inspiring the brothers to imagine a brighter, faster future of their own.

Humble Acceleration

Carrying momentum from their recent notoriety in the motorcycle racing world, the Marzocchi brothers open their own workshop from their home in Via Zannoni, Bologna. The shop is small but mighty, and located in the right place: Italy’s famous Motor Valley, which was—and remains —home to many of the world’s leading motorcycle and luxury car brands to this day.

In Fast Company

Marzocchi is literally off to the races and onto podiums worldwide. By the ‘50s Marzocchi’s suspension was winning racing championships and pursued by the leading brands of the day: Ducati, Ferrari, KTM, Lotus, Lamborghini, and Maserati, all of which partnered with Marzocchi, placing the company in legendary race circles early on.

Generation Throttle

Family remains important to the brand as Adriano Marzocchi (son of Stefano) and Paolo (son of Guglielmo) take over the company, right as motorbike racing is becoming popularized. The junior Marzocchis continue to produce suspension for race motorbikes with big engines and slick aerodynamics. Marzocchi also begins building suspension for motocross racing, a sport which is growing rapidly in Europe and North America. Whether on- or off-road, Marzochhi suspension dominates motorcycle racing.

An Iconic Sidequest

Marzocchi expands into the burgeoning mountain bike market, first releasing the Star Fork in 1990, the iconic Bomber in 1996, the legendary triple-clamp Monster T in 1997, and the Z2 in 2000. The brand is associated with the steep descents, big airs, and freeride attitude of the era, with riders like Wade Simmons, Josh Bender and Tyler Klassen filming unforgettable daring stunts on Marzocchi suspension forks.

The Down Stroke

After more than 70 years of Italian engineering heritage, Marzocchi changed ownership, and production moved overseas. Over time, the brand lost its way. By 2015, Marzocchi faced closure, putting its long legacy at risk.

Resurrection

Marzocchi’s mountain bike division is bought and brought back to life by former competitor FOX. Headquartered in Scotts Valley, CA, FOX designs and manufactures high-performance products for bicycles, off-road vehicles, trucks, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, and, of course, motorcycles. The deal resurrects Marzocchi and enlivens the brand, putting world-class mountain bike suspension back onto bikes on every continent, where they quickly find their way to podiums worldwide.

Getting the Brand Back Together

FOX completes the process of revitalizing and unifying the Marzocchi brand by acquiring the motorcycle division. Finally, motorcycle and mountain bike come together again, and one of the most iconic and innovative suspension companies in history is back where it belongs: at the forefront.
